「スーパやコンビニのお弁当を誰が作っていると思いますか？」20歳前後のスタッフに聞いてみます。すると、不思議な顔をして、考えたことがなかったとほとんどの方が答えます。それでも聞いてみると、「パートのおじさん、おばさんかな？」との答えです。
「あなたと同じ20歳前後の若い人が一生懸命作っているよ！」と伝えるとみなさんビックリします。ネパールやベトナムから研修生等の名目で来日し元気に働いています。実は同年台が作っていると知ると複雑な表情を見せる人もいます。
話はあえてそこで止めます。事実を伝えて、考えるきっかけを作るためです。学生の方には、勉強する環境のありがたさや、自国で働ける喜びなど幾つでも言うことはあります。でも、人から言われたことよりも、自分で気づくと何倍も深く考えます。
「落ちのない話、聞きたくなかった」とあるスタッフからの反応がありました。さすがに「今の環境を大切に考えて欲しい」とフォローしました。どうやら、外国人労働者の給与や働く環境にネガティブなイメージを持っていたらしく、事実を伝えると納得していました。
